Abstract
This project report is a summary of the lecturers ‘attendance monitoring system that will capture daily lecturers’ attendance records in class at Uganda institute of Information and communications Technology and facilitates access to the attendance of a particular lecturer in a particular class and help in storing the attendance of a lecturer. Rather than signing an attendance sheet manually, the attendance records are captured and stored into the database of the lecturers’ attendance monitoring system that makes it easier manageable.
The study was conducted in the presence of the Quality Assurance Officer at Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology and resultantly came up with lecturers’ attendance monitoring system that aid monitoring lecturers’ attendance records.
The major objectives of the study were to design and develop lecturers’ attendance monitoring system during physical lectures for UICT with that system.
The specific objectives included studying the current system on lecturers’ attendance monitoring in order to identify the inefficiency and weakness of the system, analyzing the findings from the study in order to generate user requirements, design and develop the monitoring system based on the user requirement and also test and validate the developed monitoring system.
Data was gathered using interviews, observations and questionnaires. The collected data was sorted and analyzed using tools and techniques for examples data flow diagram, Entity Relationship Diagram among others and it was found out that the current manual system is inefficient, time consuming in addition to being insecure hence not good for the management of attendance record.
With the new developed system (LAMS), management is able to capture and store attendance reports of lecturers. The very system does not grant permission to the lecturer to approve/ disapprove him or herself since every user is assigned to a specific task
